AP: Yanks’ Chamberlain expects to return this month
TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—Joba Chamberlain plans to start a throwing program next week and expects to rejoin the New York Yankees’ rotation this month. Chamberlain was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to rotator cuff tendinitis in his pitching shoulder.
The right-hander saw Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday, one day after an MRI on the rookie’s ailing shoulder.
“I’ll be throwing in a week. I’ll probably throw the beginning of next week,” Chamberlain said Friday when he arrived at the Yankees’ spring training complex. “Everything feels fine now.”
When asked if he would be ready to start again for the Yankees by Sept. 1, Chamberlain said “I’ll throw way before that in a game.”
Exhale.

Rangers Ballpark in Arlington sucks.
Every ballpark in Texas sucks. Obviously, the full exhale will not happen until Joba pitches a game for the team this year.

...AND his arm doesn’t fly off.
So, seeing that several people are logged in, and being intrigued by a discussion over at RAB, here’s a good time killer. What do with the offseason free agent position players, specifically Giambi, Abreu?
Giambi has a $5M buyout, $20M option. Abreu is an FA. Both are likely type A.
His confidence reminds me of a…Brett Marshall!! http://mvn.com/milb-yankees/2008/08/07/q-a-with-brett-marshall/
Get Tex. Get Barry Bonds. The end.
Kill Abreu. Fuck Giambi. Marry CC.
Wait… What?
Perhaps if IPK and/or Hughes pitch well down the stretch we can unload some pitching prospects for a CF prospect. If we can do this we can let Abreu walk and sign CC/Sheets and/or Tex.
I’m not a big fan generally of opening ceremonies and all that stuff. But so far, pretty awesome.
Clay: hilarious. Props for making me laugh out loud (or is aloud?)...
The Yankees have Austin Jackson, who they seem pretty committed to at this juncture. I don’t think they are looking for a CF prospect.
See Tampa- having two CFers in the same OF really helps your pitching
The intriguing part of what the Yankees have available to them is that Xavier Nady has played about 500 innings of 1B and has done it pretty well (.873 ZR which is probably a touch above average.)
I mean, the draw to just sign a switch hitting, .280/.390/.530 guy who plays well defensively is there.
I think in the end, you pick up Giambi’s option. At first you try to negotiate a better 1 year deal than $20M if he’s willing to decline the option, but in the end, you pick it up. You also let Abreu walk. Girardi should be able to field a full outfield and 1B with Damon, Matsui, Melky, Nady, Giambi and Betemit at his disposal. Signing Texiera for the 5 or 6 years he’ll want locks up a position that might need to be options for Jeter, ARod and Posada in the not to distant future, or landing spots for Juan Miranda or Jesus Montero (I’ve heard that he will be a MLB catcher and I’ve heard that there’s no chance he’ll be an MLB catcher, so who knows.)
I have to watch an obscure French Indy film now so I can watch the Yanks game later…but I do get to stuff my face with fried dumplings in 15mins!
I forgot Nady can play 1B- with him here it makes the decision come down to Abreu vs. Giambi. Giambi at $20M doesn’t sound appealing but for 1yr it may be OK. Feel out Tex and see if he’d take 5yrs, $85M or so. If not, pick up the option.
I like Posado, but he’s not likely to be around the Yankee playing diamond.
I guess if you want to talk possibilities. What are the 3B options this year and near future. If you aren’t signing Tex, Alex is going to move there within three years?
I was just expecting a bunch of contorting chinese freaks, but the coordination and technology is amazing. Also, I wonder how much of the opening ceremony bits are understandable to Pres Bush, and average Americans.
I like Posado, but he’s not likely to be around the Yankee playing diamond in 4-5 years I mean.
What’s the obscure French Indy?
Bush said he would attend the opening ceremonies because he views the Olympic Games as a sporting event, not a political event. I agree(d) with him.
But the opening ceremonies that we’re all watching are very clearly a cultural representation of China through dance, props, music, etc. The NBC analyst is giving the play by play of what each dance move, head dress and what not mean.
When’s the dance where the Chinese police take you to prison for sending text messages about their oppressive government? Or the thick cloud of smog settling over every urban Chinese area? Or the Tibetan monk getting strangled?
Sorry for the rant, I just don’t get it some time.
I have to watch an obscure French Indy film now
what?
My favorite obscure French Indy film is Man bites Dog. about a film crew following around a serial killer. Very dark, funny at times and of course disturbing.
Does Man, in fact, bite Dog?
Clay- isn’t that a Belguim Indy film?

I think you’ll find out by 10PM or so
Oh man, post #7 was so good. I hope it doesn’t get lost by people going to the game chatter now.
Next entry: Yankees (63-52) @ Angels (71-43), 10:05pm **Game Chatter**
