Hughes was good yesterday-might be a start or two away.  Whatever is the secret?
Who’s on first?

Madonna wants some element A-Rod

Jeter’s slugging % just hurt my eyes.

Rasner getting squeezed?

Can Figgins please just stop playing baseball?  He’s such a little turd.

Hehe.

This is a fun way to start.

Rasner getting squeezed?

Yeah, looks like that second pitch was a definite outside corner strike but called a ball.

Can’t throw a freaking strike.

I love the look on Rasner’s face - he’s like “Ah damn, this sucks.”

Its f’ing effortless the way the Angels score against this team.  They can go to hell.

If Garrett Anderson and Kevin Millar only played the Yankees…that’d be some team.

Don’t worry, Jonathan, two runs isn’t a lot. It’s just Lackey pitchi…oh, wait.

IF (Rasner = sucks) AND ((Hughes = good) OR (Kennedy = good))
THEN (Rasner = bye bye)

?

OK, so this is a no-doubt loss, 10 minutes in.  Big surfreakinprise.

I think Rasner is better than Giese, ym.

I think…

Rasner has sucked, but yeah, he IS getting squeezed.

Sharp start when did IPK pitch last?

Not for nothing, but we have to at least first see what Lackey has before calling the game (we shouldn’t be calling a 2-run game in the first period, but you know what I mean, see what kind of stuff he has before we freak out too much).

I think IPK should be pitching tonight or tomorrow for AAA.  Let’s see what happens.

Anyone else pumped about Hughes velocity last night? I saw the highlights, his arm action looked slightly adjusted, less of a pushing motion toward the plate.

I have a feeling the bats are showing up big time today.

Not for nothing, but we have to at least first see what Lackey has before calling the game (we shouldn’t be calling a 2-run game in the first period, but you know what I mean, see what kind of stuff he has before we freak out too much).

A fine sentiment.  However, may I remind you that WOE has a remarkable effect on even mediocre pitchers?  Scott Feldman becomes Pedro Martinez circa 1999, etc.  I have no faith.

Captain GIDP in 3…2…

I blame TBS’s lousy intro for Dasner’s problems.

Cap’n Waste-An-Out shows up instead.

I blame Dasner’s lousiness for Dasner’s problems tongue laugh

IPK is pitching this afternoon vs Pawtucket.  One scoreless so far.  Tell me why I’m wrong but I’m just not overwhelmed with Aceves minor league stats, they’re certainly not as good as IPK’s anyway.  He has an era of 4.15 in 6 starts and i once looked up his Mexican league stats and he had a lifetime era about 4 there.  Unless all the Mexican league games are played in Colorado altitude I don’t see that translating to success in the majors.  Why did Hughes injury have to linger so fucking long.

I blame Jeter.

Someone should have told Bobby the game started.

that bunt worked out well

John Lackey is a seriously unfortunate-looking dude.

There is literally no logic behind bunting there. Your head would explode before finding a reason to justify it.

Leadoff hit(s) are such stupid tactics for this team.  Doesn’t Damon know anything about Sabremetrics.  The right strategy is two quick outs, cross your fingers, and hope for a solo HR or two.

“Tack-on runs”.  Great.  Let’s make up our own stats!

FUCKING JETER! WHAT THE FUCK IS HE DOING BUNTING IN THE FIRST INNING?

Jeter is an idiot playing baseball.

I dunno, I’m not quite as incensed about the bunt as you guys.  The alternative was most likely a DP, at least this way he moved a runner into scoring position…

Walk to Reggie Willits?

Somebody needs to fucking slap Rasner.

YM, Jeter only GIDPs in 81% of his plate appearances.  Does that justify the bunt?

Holy cow White I walked away in disgust for a minute and didn’t realize Jeter bunted down TWO.  Please tell me he bunted for a hit a skill at which he is terrible.  If it was a sacrifice someone must tell Jeter that he is NEVER allowed to bunt on his own.  Has anyone ever approached Jeter about the stupidity of 1st inning bunts or is everyone just too scared of his clutchness.

Aw man this game is going to suck so bad.

That’s what happens.

Somebody needs to get up in the bullpen. There has to be an alternative.

I was sure Rasner would be better then Ponson or Karstens.  Guess I was wrong.

Holy shit get Ponson away from Joba RIGHT NOW

Screw this, I’m outta here.  Perhaps I’ll later read of an inspirational Yankee comeback.

There’s the game.

Isn’t this what Giese is for?

Kay is just killing me today. Killing me.

The Yankees hate puppies, apple pie, and scoring runs.

Prediction when the game is out of reach we’ll get a few home runs, probably one from Arod.

OK, I lied, I’m still watching on Gameday.  How far did that last ball hit to Melky go?

All the way, YM.

Lackey is putting on a bit of a clinic here.

All the way, YM.

...to the moon?  To the Hamptons?

Hehe…right to the centerfield wall. Melky hit it as he caught it. So it was hit far.

HOW the hell was that 1-1 curve not a strike?!?!

Rasner was freaked out for a sec - “Two outs and no one on?!?”

Pitchers without good stuff must have good control.

Yankeeography Alex Rodriguez seems a bit premature since this is year 5 of 14.

Amazing. One ball out of the infield in three innings. WOE, indeed. Thankfully Moose pitched well yesterday. I predict 2-8 against the Angels this year…

Figgins hasn’t hit a HR this year which means he’ll hit one today.

Rasner is clearly terrified of Willits’ .231 SLG.

God, I hate Figgins.  Like, rageaholic hate.

Rasner’s strategy of walking Reggie Willits isn’t paying off.

Two out of three Red Sox starters dominated us, two of three Os starters dominated or shut us down, and now it looks as if three out of 4 Halo’s starters will have dominated or shut us down.  I do expect the 5 run rally in the 8th when the score is 9-0

I’m just beginning to consider the possibility this WOE tag is appropriate.

I’m just beginning to consider the possibility this WOE tag is appropriate.

It took you until 111 games into the season to realize this?

I’m also just beginning to formulate an opinion on whether or not Bush is a good President(not saying which way I lean)

IPK 4IP 3H 1 ER 1 BB 3 Ks

Goodbye Darrel we hate to see you go

Yogi needs to give lessons in not striking out to A-Rod

So you’re saying that in about 10 years you’ll begin to get a better idea of whether Prohibition was a bad thing or not?

I’m too drunk to tackle that problem

That was the worst play ever. Seriously. I have never seen something so dumb.

Are you too drunk to tackle Bobby Abreu?  Cause I’d really appreciate that.

That was the sukiest suck that ever sucked.

Er… what happened?

I’m so dumbfounded by that play I can’t even say anything snarky.

Fucking incompetent morons on this team are like the Bizarro version of the late 90s Yankees wh knew how to win

Can anyone summarize for the Gamedayers?

Well, I guess that puts an end to this caper.

Whew. What a difference a year makes. Last year, A-Rod bounces that ball off of the wall. This year? No doubt in my mind that he would strike out.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse, stupider basrunning play in my life.  However since we had no chance to win anyway it doesn’t fucking matter.

Feel the Range

Bobby trade to tag, was thrown out by about six feet before Jeter scored. No run.

83:I’m just beginning to consider the possibility that Arod has been striking out a lot with men on base lately

Hmmm, IPK was taken out after 4 innings and 59 pitches.  Anticipating a call up or was he injured?

84. No, nothing tops Ruben Rivera’s insane trek while with the Giants.

88, definitely looking like a call up. This makes it more likely Snacks will be gone since it will be Hughes vs. Snacks for the last rotation slot.

Fabian, do you mean Rasner will be gone?

Wait, I have it as Kennedy throwing 3 more pitches in the 5th (thus far) according to the box score. ym, are you sure he was taken out?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUBKuqqxDDU

Who do you keep - Rasner or Ponson? They have the same stuff and similar results, but Ponson seems to be luckier this year.

Yeah, Kennedy’s definitely still in the game.

Ponson has better stuff than Rasner.

My bad, Fabian.  He’s still in there.  Nevermind then, looks like the Rasner-Pontoon Experience will be with us for a while longer.

I imagine Rasner will be gone first since snacks seemed to have pitched well last time though stats indicate we was probably mostly lucky.

O-Rod and Molino are pushing each other to a higher place right now.

Sure would be nice to have that run right about now.

96 why can’t IPK pitch in Rasner’s spot on his regular rest since they both started today?  Rasner must go, only other possibility is Geise inherits rotation spot.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
