Can you throw some Twins vs. Tigers pie charts up there too?

I don’t understand how the Yankees’ chances of clinching today can be 55%, considering that their win probability against the clearly superior Red Sox, with 12 aces and the best bullpen in baseball, is certainly going to be something in the range of -100%.

mmm…pie for breakfast.

Considering that the Yanks just topped Lester and Matsuzaka, I’m guessing they get inexplicably stymied by Moe Syzlak er…Paul Byrd.

...wait, my bad.  MC’s got it right: the Yankees will be completely EXplicably stymied by the Sawx.

Happiness is a warm pie chart.

Hmm, it seems Nomaas went with the distasteful route with Lester’s injury. Ok…

I do not concur.  The Bird gets defeathered.

What happens if rain?

[8] ESPN: Yankees unable to clinch against storming Red Sox.

Hmm, it seems Nomaas went with the distasteful route with Lester’s injury. Ok…

knowing he’s not seriously hurt, i’m not at all above laughing at this.  why should i be?

Lester is fine, and it’s just baseball.

and this is more in reference to the fact that he was getting knocked around before he took a liner off his knee.

IOW, any day now.

Looks like they’ll play this one in a light rain, but I imagine it would take an awful lot to call it.  The Red Sox don’t have far to travel after the game and don’t have an off day the rest of the season.

[7] Bad taste, no?  Lester was only sick, Fidrych is actually dead.

Feinsand:

Girardi was non-committal about whether the Yankees would choose the longer division series assuming they clinch home field throughout the playoffs, but here’s a quote with a clue: “In a longer series, you can use your pen, every guy, every day, and our pen has been a strength. You also might not have to take an extra pitcher.”

[12] - Would they make this game up if it gets postponed?  It almost certainly won’t affect either the wild card or division.

They probably would not make it up.  Which means it will cost the Yankees $2-3M if they don’t get it in.

[15]
Aren’t you forgetting the business side of things, DaPuj?

Also, I’m really shocked that they don’t appear to be seriously considering the other schedule in the event that the opponent is Detroit.  Perhaps they are and the PR front is one of those baseball politics things - don’t give Detroit or Minipaul the opportunity to feel offended because the choice put down the starting staff/bullpen of one of the teams?

Why the fuck are the Jets wearing Steeler’s uniforms?

And why are the Pats on Fox? No giants!?! BOOO

MC beat me by 5 seconds.  Well done.

[18]
That’s one of those other sports that occasionally gets in the way of hearing about baseball isn’t it?

Another complication is that they moved this back to a day game because of Yom Kippur.  So presumably they want to finish early enough for the fans to get home by sundown (6:44 pm).

HAving Brady as your fantasy QB really challenges ones rooting instincts. I hate rooting for that prick but I must.

And even though the start of the game is being delayed, don’t we need a new Mismatch Chatter thread?

Hey everyone, I just bumped the “Ellsburying the Yankees” Sox Therapy thread from back in May on BTF. Have at it!

Geez, I thought it was an 8:05 game.  Thread’s up now.

Ha, I was about to email you.  Can’t break the streak.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
